IEC 60034 defines motor performance, frame sizes, and efficiency classes (IE1 to IE4+) in metric units, while NEMA uses imperial dimensions. In addition to physical dimensions, there are differences in testing methods for efficiency, temperature rise limits, and overload factors. Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) replaces air gaps within the stator windings with protective resin. This improves heat transfer from the coils, increases mechanical strength against electrical stresses, and protects the winding insulation in humid or chemically aggressive environments.
