Strategic Acquisitions & Global Brand Portfolio

Wolong Electric Drive Group has systematically integrated world-class European and American legacy motor manufacturers, building a powerful global engineering ecosystem.

2011: ATB Group Acquisition

Wolong acquired 97.94% of the Austrian ATB Group, positioning itself as a direct controller of one of Europe's top three motor manufacturers. This acquisition integrated the legacy mining brand Morley (130+ years of underground coal mining expertise) and Laurence Scott (known for low starting currents, nuclear power stations, and naval generator designs).

Brook Crompton & Schorch Motors

The integration of Brook Crompton Motors brought over a century of motor design mastery, pioneering the energy-efficient Brook Crompton "W" and "10" series for harsh industrial tasks. Concurrently, Schorch Electric Motor (established 1882) joined the group, providing premium drive systems for petrochemical and oil & gas industries globally.

1999/2015: OLI & Nanyang Explosion-Proof Group

In 1999, Wolong established a partnership with OLI, the global leader in industrial vibration motors and sensors. In 2015, China's largest explosion-proof base, Nanyang Explosion-Proof Group (CNE), joined Wolong. This transaction expanded the group's research capabilities and manufacturing scale for hazardous areas (Ex d, Ex e, Ex p motors).

Component-Level Engineering & Simulation Platforms

Every IEC 60034 motor undergoes rigorous digital testing and mechanical modeling to optimize its thermal limits, structural resonance, and electrical parameters.

VPI Processed High-Grade Stators

Our stator windings feature polyester film and reinforced glass cloth, insulated with high-grade mica tapes containing optimal powder density. Following assembly, stator cores undergo Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI).

This process eliminates air pockets within the insulation, providing protection against moisture ingress, chemical degradation, and electrical stress.

Cast Aluminum & Fabricated Copper Rotors

Our standard squirrel cage designs utilize centrifugal cast-aluminum configurations. Pure, molten aluminum is dynamically cast directly into the rotor slot profiles for integrated bar and end-ring geometry.

For high-capacity, high-voltage motors, fabricated copper bar designs are employed. High-speed applications use alloy retaining rings to maintain structural integrity under high centrifugal loads.

Finite Element Frame Optimization

Using digital multi-physics simulation platforms, we analyze structural mechanics and thermodynamics. Motor frames are cast from high-tensile cast iron or fabricated steel to manage mechanical impact.

The cooling fin structures are designed to provide efficient thermal dissipation and high vibration margins under load.

Motor Frame Castings

Optimized Low Noise Ventilation

Our low-noise cooling systems consist of an aerodynamic steel shroud, an internal air-guide cylinder, protective mesh, and integrated sound-damping liners. The side-entry air intake design reduces turbulence and pressure losses.

The entire assembly conforms to IP22 specifications, preventing accidental contact with rotating elements.

Macro Industrial Applications & System Integration

Our IEC 60034 motors are designed for heavy-duty industrial applications, offering high reliability in demanding operating conditions.

Petrochemical & Hazardous Areas

We provide flameproof (Ex d), pressurized (Ex p), and increased safety (Ex e) motors for explosive atmospheres, designed to meet ATEX, IECEx, and EAC standards.

Heavy Mining & Excavation

For tunneling and coal mines, we manufacture water-cooled, high-torque explosion-proof motors (YBBP / YBU series) that resist severe dust, humidity, and mechanical vibration.

Power & Energy Systems

Our high-voltage synchronous condensers help stabilize grid reactive power. We also construct customized high-voltage asynchronous motors (YAKK, YAKS) for utility circulation systems.

Questions & Answers: Technical Reference

Answers to common questions regarding engineering specifications and international standards for our industrial drive systems.

1. What are the key differences between IEC 60034 and NEMA motor standards?

IEC 60034 defines motor performance, frame sizes, and efficiency classes (IE1 to IE4+) in metric units, while NEMA uses imperial dimensions. In addition to physical dimensions, there are differences in testing methods for efficiency, temperature rise limits, and overload factors. We offer designs to bridge these standard configurations for international projects.

2. How does the VPI process improve stator insulation reliability?

Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) replaces air gaps within the stator windings with protective resin. This improves heat transfer from the coils, increases mechanical strength against electrical stresses, and protects the winding insulation in humid or chemically aggressive environments.

3. When are fabricated copper bar rotors used instead of cast aluminum designs?

For high-voltage or larger frame motors, fabricated copper bar rotors are used. Copper's lower resistivity reduces rotor losses and improves starting torque under high-inertia loads. These rotors feature reinforced welding at the end rings and protective containment rings for high-speed operation.

4. What explosion-proof standards apply to IEC 60034 motors in hazardous zones?

Our motors are certified under ATEX and IECEx frameworks. Depending on the environment, we supply flameproof enclosures (Ex d/db) for containing internal ignition, increased safety designs (Ex e/eb) to prevent sparking, or pressurized systems (Ex p) to exclude explosive gases.
