Core Engineering Solutions & Thermal Physics

Our liquid cooled series utilize optimized water jacket circulation paths to drastically reduce thermal resistance, maintaining constant temperature profiles even in small spaces.

ATEX/IECEx/EAC Certified

Engineered for hazardous zones. Providing double-walled isolation for liquid cooling loops in Class I Div 1 and Zone 1/21 configurations, combining explosion-proof integrity with fast heat dissipation.

High Efficiency & Energy Saving

Delivering IE4 and IE5 efficiencies through permanent magnet design integration. Reduced rotor copper losses paired with constant water cooling ensures continuous high-efficiency torque delivery.

Severe Duty Protection

Our closed-loop cooling configurations shield components against particulate ingestion, moisture, and chemical exposure, making them ideal for heavy industrial applications.

Physical Anatomy & Material Quality

Unveiling the premium structural elements that give our custom and OEM motors an operational lifespan far exceeding typical market options.

Motor rotor structure assembly

Advanced Rotor Engineering

Our rotors feature the rugged squirrel cage design, utilizing high-purity cast aluminum or heavy copper-bar architectures depending on the frame rating. Cast aluminum rotors are produced via precision centrifugal casting or high-pressure die-casting, ensuring dense, bubble-free bars and integrated end rings. This guarantees uniform magnetic performance and optimal starting torque.

For high-load variable frequency projects, the copper bar rotors are secured with high-grade weldments and high-speed retaining rings. This prevents thermal deformation, ensures high mechanical durability, and permits precise speed control across standard speed ranges.

Stator winding and insulation

Stator & VPI Insulation Technology

Our winding coils are wound from premium polyester-imide enameled wire, insulated using low-binder or medium-binder mica tape with high mica content, and reinforced with glass cloth. After assembly, the complete stator core undergoes a computerized Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) cycle. This process removes air pockets and fully encapsulates the winding assembly in a high-grade solventless epoxy resin.

The resulting insulation system provides superior dielectric strength, resists moisture, and ensures Class H thermal limits. It also maintains long-term structural integrity in environments with high vibration levels.

Cast iron motor frame structure

High-Strength Frame & Cooling Channels

The motor enclosure is designed using 3D multi-physics fluid-thermal simulations to optimize coolant paths and structural integrity. Utilizing premium grade cast iron or welded steel plates, our motor frames are cast with integrated cooling water channels. These channels wrap around the stator core to maximize heat transfer.

This layout offers high structural rigidity, absorbs mechanical shock, and prevents frame distortion under extreme torque. In addition, the design separates water channels from electrical connections, ensuring safe operation.

Low noise fan hood system

Low-Noise Ventilation & Fan Systems

For air-cooled and hybrid-cooled motor options, we incorporate a low-noise fan cover system. This setup features an optimized air guide cylinder, standard protective mesh, and a silencer plate. The side-entry air intake minimizes turbulence, reduces wind friction loss, and reduces noise emissions during high-speed operation.

Fitted with sound-absorbing liners and rated IP22, the fan cover prevents debris contact. It also ensures efficient airflow over external cooling fins for projects where hybrid air-liquid cooling is requested.

Our Brand Ecosystem & Technology Heritage

Our brand portfolio represents over a century of high-end European and American electric motor innovation, consolidated under Wolong’s global manufacturing platform.

ATB & Morley (Austrian & British Heritage)

Acquired in 2011, Austria-based ATB is a leading manufacturer in the European motor sector. Included in ATB is the Morley brand, which brings over 130 years of experience in producing heavy-duty explosion-proof motors for mining conveyors and underground excavators. This heritage ensures our liquid-cooled motors deliver high reliability in harsh environments.

Laurence Scott & Schorch

Laurence Scott is recognized for low starting current systems used in marine vessels and nuclear utilities. Meanwhile, Schorch (established in Germany in 1882) specializes in heavy high-voltage drives for petro-chemical, gas pipeline, and tunnel ventilation projects. Our manufacturing lines combine this expertise to deliver high-capacity industrial systems.

GE Motors & OLI Vibration

Wolong acquired General Electric’s (GE) industrial motor division in 2018, bringing over a century of experience in heavy-duty commercial motor manufacturing. Coupled with OLI’s market share in industrial vibration motors, this technology integration enables us to supply durable motors for mining, oil & gas, and heavy bulk material handling.

Industry Whitepaper: Global Supply Chain & Compliance

1. The OEM Liquid Cooled Motor Global Trend

Industrial electrification requires increased power density in space-constrained installations. Closed-loop liquid cooling offers superior thermal transfer compared to air-cooled models, allowing for a smaller frame footprint. This is essential for underground mining, marine propulsion, tunnel boring machines, and chemical plants, where compact layouts and dust prevention are critical priorities.

China's Vertical Supply Chain Advantage

Our factories benefit from China's localized supply chain for raw materials, including high-grade electrical steel laminations, high-purity copper wires, and rare earth magnets. This vertical integration allows Shaanxi Nanfang Motor to optimize production costs and speed up delivery schedules, while maintaining quality standards on custom OEM projects.

Global Logistics & Engineering Support

Through Wolong's international sales network, we provide local engineering consultation, on-site commissioning, and post-installation support. Our engineering teams assist global clients from design verification to installation, ensuring compatibility with existing control drives and piping layouts.

2. Certification & Compliance Frameworks

Compliance is essential for dangerous and deep-sea environments. Our manufacturing facilities maintain certified quality control systems to ensure compliance with major international standards.

Q&A: Technical Specifications & Procurement FAQ

Expert engineering answers for procurement managers, project leads, and system designers.

Why choose liquid cooling over air cooling in heavy-duty applications?

Liquid cooling provides a high heat transfer coefficient, allowing motors to be built with a smaller physical frame size while maintaining high power ratings. It also isolates the cooling loop from ambient air, preventing dust, salt, or moisture from entering the motor. This makes it suitable for mines, chemical plants, and marine installations.

Which coolant media can be used in your OEM liquid cooled motor series?

Our motors support industrial water, treated water with glycol additives (for anti-freezing and corrosion prevention), and synthetic cooling oils. The flow rates and inlet pressures are customized based on the motor's heat load and the site's operating temperature.

How do you guarantee explosion-proof reliability in mining and gas environments?

Our explosion-proof motors (such as the YBX4 and YBK3 series) feature robust cast iron frames, tight flamepath clearances, and flameproof terminal boxes. They undergo pressure testing to contain internal ignitions without releasing flame or hot gas to the surrounding environment, meeting ATEX and IECEx specifications.

Can your motors be integrated with third-party variable frequency drives (VFD)?

Yes. Our BPY-S30, WEBP3, and TBVF series are designed for variable speed control. They feature reinforced insulation and insulated non-drive end bearings to prevent damage from shaft currents caused by high-frequency VFD pulses.

What is the typical production and delivery lead time for custom OEM motors?

Lead times range from 6 to 12 weeks depending on the frame size, cooling configuration, and certification requirements. Utilizing our localized supply chain, we optimize production steps to meet your project schedules.
