In 2011, WOLONG completed the strategic acquisition of 97.94% of the Austrian ATB Group, positioning WOLONG among the upper echelon of European electric machine manufacturers. This acquisition integrated ATB’s long-standing engineering legacy in heavy industrial machinery, petrochemical installations, and power generation drives.
Under the ATB umbrella, the Morley brand brought close to 130 years of experience in heavy underground coal mining, specializing in highly robust mechanical frames and custom cooling channels for flameproof conveyor applications. Concurrently, Laurence Scott brought unparalleled intellectual property in low-starting-current configurations, high-voltage generators for nuclear facilities, and specialized naval propulsion machinery, having served as a key supplier for military and civil infrastructure projects.
The integration of Brook Crompton expanded WOLONG’s low-voltage and medium-voltage portfolio. Boasting over a century of research and development in premium electric machines, Brook Crompton developed the high-efficiency "W" and "10" series, which are designed to support variable frequency drive packages in high-friction, corrosive, and challenging environments.
Similarly, the acquisition of Germany's Schorch in 2011 integrated world-class European engineering traditions dating back to 1882. Schorch serves as a premier standard-bearer for large industrial drives in heavy chemical processing, offshore exploration, municipal water management, tunnel ventilation, and metallurgy, focusing on mechanical reliability and high thermal capacity.
In 1999, WOLONG entered a joint venture with the world’s leading manufacturer of industrial vibrators, OLI. This partnership provided WOLONG with unmatched expertise in eccentric mass rotor dynamics and vibration sensors. This was further consolidated in 2015, when Nanyang Explosion-Proof Group (CNE) joined the WOLONG ecosystem. As China’s largest research and production base for explosion-proof drives, CNE brought advanced capabilities in positive-pressure shell configurations, large high-voltage flameproof machines, and nuclear-grade safety designs.
In 2018, WOLONG completed the acquisition of General Electric (GE) Industrial Motors. This integration joined GE’s extensive manufacturing experience in North American NEMA frames with WOLONG’s global supply chain. This partnership provides robust heavy-duty motors designed specifically for petrochemical refinement, bulk materials handling, and large-scale water treatment plants.

A detailed look at the engineering and design of our high-performance motors.
The rotor features a highly durable squirrel cage design, utilizing cast aluminum structures produced through advanced centrifugal casting or high-pressure die-casting. Molten pure aluminum is poured directly into the slots of the laminated rotor core, integrating the rotor bars and end rings into a single, cohesive unit. This process ensures consistent electrical conductivity, prevents internal air pockets, and provides outstanding starting torque characteristics.
For larger high-voltage motors, copper bar rotors are used. These feature welded copper end-rings and robust structural retaining rings designed to withstand mechanical stress during high-speed operation and frequent acceleration cycles.
The stator windings are insulated using high-grade polyester film reinforced with glass cloth, combined with high-density mica tapes. The finished stator core undergoes a computerized Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) cycle, which fully saturates the insulation system with premium solventless resin.
This process eliminates air gaps in the slots, providing exceptional electrical resistance, mechanical strength, and protection against moisture and corrosive industrial atmospheres. Additionally, this VPI treatment ensures excellent thermal conductivity, keeping operating temperatures low and extending the overall service life of the motor.
Our motor frames are engineered using multi-physics simulation platforms, optimizing structural integrity and thermal airflow. Made from high-tensile cast iron (with fabricated steel options for customized footprints), the frames feature robust cooling ribs that maximize surface area for heat dissipation.
Designed with deep structural redundancy, the frame layout prevents resonant vibrations during operation, absorbs heavy external shocks, and maintains precise bearing alignment. This structure keeps noise levels low and ensures reliable performance under continuous industrial loads.
The cooling system includes a low-noise fan cover, air-guide shroud, protective mesh screens, and sound-absorbing silencer plates. Its compact, lightweight design minimizes vibration and optimizes airflow across the frame cooling ribs.
The side-inlet design ensures proper ventilation even when space is limited behind the motor, reducing aerodynamic noise caused by turbulence. The system features sound-insulating lining to damp high-frequency blade-pass noise, and it carries an IP22 rating to prevent accidental contact with the fan blades.

We are expanding our product lineup with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) and Synchronous Reluctance Motors (SynRM) to meet IE5 efficiency levels. These motors are optimized for variable-torque pump, fan, and compressor applications, helping operators achieve significant energy savings under varying load profiles.
Modern industrial applications require continuous, data-driven system insights. Our next-generation electric motors feature integrated temperature, vibration, and magnetic flux sensors. These sensors feed real-time performance data into SCADA or cloud diagnostics dashboards, helping operators prevent unscheduled downtime and optimize maintenance schedules.
To support global sustainability initiatives like the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), we are optimizing our manufacturing supply chain. This includes using recycled raw copper, low-carbon steel, and eco-friendly paint formulations to minimize the carbon footprint of every motor produced.
Technical guidance and product specifications for procurement officers and plant engineers.
IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standards define metric-based frame sizes, power ratings in kilowatts, and European electrical compliance specifications. NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) standards focus on imperial dimensions (inches), horsepower ratings, and North American operating frequencies (such as 60Hz at 230/460V). WOLONG produces motors that meet both standards, including the NSHE and NEXP series for NEMA environments and the YE3 and WEX3 series for IEC installations.
Our flameproof motors feature robust, heavy-walled enclosures designed to contain any internal combustion or electrical spark, preventing the ignition of volatile gases in the surrounding atmosphere. These enclosures are certified to ATEX and IECEx standards, and they use labyrinth shafts, dynamic seals, and flamepaths to ensure safe operation in Ex d, Ex de, and Ex p (positive pressure) environments.
Yes. Our industrial motors are fully compatible with modern VFD operations. They feature high-grade Class H insulated magnet wire and specialized corona-resistant VPI resin systems.
