How Wolong brought together the world's most trusted motor manufacturers under one umbrella, accumulating decades of engineering mastery.
In 2011, Wolong acquired a 97.94% stake in the Austrian ATB Group, positioning itself as a major controller of one of Europe's top three motor manufacturers. This acquisition integrated the historic brands Morley and Laurence Scott. Morley holds a 130-year lineage in high-specification underground coal mining motors, recognized globally for rugged reliability. Laurence Scott specializes in heavy-duty low-starting-current motors utilized in nuclear power facilities and naval defense vessels, having earned the Queen's Award for Enterprise.
Under the Wolong umbrella, Brook Crompton brought a century of design expertise in energy-efficient motors, particularly the "W" and "10" series designed for harsh environments. Additionally, Wolong's strategic partnership with OLI since 1999 secured the market-leading position in electric vibration motors (MVE series) and vibration sensors, merging high-frequency dynamics with industrial-grade mechanical structures.
Established in 1882, Germany's Schorch joined Wolong in 2011, contributing advanced engineering in high-voltage custom motor systems for oil and gas, pipeline transport, and municipal water projects. In 2015, China's premier explosion-proof research and manufacturing base, Nanyang Explosion-proof Group (CNE), integrated into the group, combining domestic research capabilities with international certified platforms.
In 2018, Wolong acquired General Electric's commercial and industrial motor business. As a pioneer in heavy machinery electrical infrastructure, GE's integration expanded Wolong's capabilities in oil and gas extraction, refinery processes, cement processing, and metallurgy, enhancing its ability to support and service large-scale industrial projects.

Inside Wolong's design methodology: how we build performance, longevity, and safety into every mechanical component.
Our rotors feature a robust squirrel-cage design. For standard and high-efficiency induction series, we utilize high-precision cast aluminum rotors produced via centrifugal or high-pressure die-casting. This process forces molten pure aluminum into the laminations, forming a solid conductor cage with integrated end rings to minimize electrical contact resistance.
For heavy-duty high-voltage motors, we transition to custom copper bar rotors. The copper bars are mechanically secured within the rotor slots and welded to the end rings using silver brazing. Additionally, high-speed models feature alloy retaining rings to prevent centrifugal deformation under mechanical stress.
The stator coil uses premium electromagnetic copper wire wrapped with polyester film and reinforced with glass cloth. We employ low-powder or medium-powder mica tape with high mica content to ensure dielectric strength.
After assembly, the entire stator core undergoes our automated Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) system. This process extracts air and moisture, then injects solventless epoxy resin under high pressure to fill all voids. The result is a unified stator structure with high electrical insulation, excellent thermal dissipation, mechanical rigidity, and moisture resistance.
Using our digital development platform, we perform 3D structural, fluid, and electromagnetic multiphysics simulations. This allows us to optimize the external cooling fin layout for heat dissipation while ensuring the frame remains rigid.
Constructed from high-tensile cast iron or welded structural steel plates, our frames provide mechanical redundancy. This helps protect the stator and rotor under severe torque conditions, isolates internal vibrations, and prevents harmonic resonance with adjacent equipment.
Our fan cover system includes an integrated air guide cylinder, protection window, and silencer plate, all optimized to reduce noise and control airflow. The side air-intake design helps prevent airflow restriction in tight spaces, minimizing turbulence and reducing noise.
By lining the interior with sound-absorbing materials, we reduce air-shearing noise. The system is rated IP22 (upgradable to IP44/IP55) to protect maintenance staff from contact with rotating fan blades.

Strategic initiatives targeted at integrating permanent magnet configurations, smart IoT diagnostics, and environmental compliance.
While induction motors remain common in many applications, the industry is increasingly adopting Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs). By utilizing NdFeB (Neodymium Iron Boron) magnets embedded in the rotor structure, these motors eliminate rotor copper losses. This allows them to achieve IE5 efficiency standards, reduce motor volume by up to 35%, and maintain high torque output at lower operating speeds.
Wolong is currently developing advanced PM rotor configurations that minimize the risk of magnet demagnetization under high temperatures. These designs are intended for use in subsea pumps, mining vehicles, and heavy-duty direct-drive applications.
Modern operations require high uptime, making unplanned motor failure a costly risk. Wolong's technological roadmap includes integrating smart sensors directly into the stator core and bearing housings. These sensors monitor vibration, temperature, and current harmonics in real time.
Using cloud-based diagnostics, these sensors analyze data trends to alert operators to early signs of insulation degradation or bearing wear. This allows maintenance teams to address issues proactively, extending the motor's operating life.

The VPI process replaces manual varnishing. It uses vacuum pressure to eliminate air pockets within the stator slots and coil windings, replacing them with a high-grade insulating resin. This protects against moisture, chemical exposure, and mechanical vibration, while improving heat transfer to help the motor run cooler under continuous loads.
Flameproof (Ex d) motors are constructed with a heavy enclosure designed to contain an internal explosion without allowing the flame to escape into the surrounding environment. Positive pressure (Ex p) motors maintain a continuous flow of clean air or inert gas inside the enclosure at a pressure higher than the surrounding atmosphere, preventing external explosive gases from entering. Ex p designs are commonly used for large, high-voltage motors where an Ex d enclosure would be too heavy.
Yes. Our low-voltage and high-voltage motors are designed to be compatible with standard variable frequency drives. We use Class F or Class H insulation systems along with insulated non-drive-end bearings to protect against shaft currents, helping to ensure reliable operation with most commercial VFD systems.
