Shaanxi Nanfang Motor Technology Co., Ltd stands as the authorized distributor and technical support gateway of Wolong Electric Drive Group Co., Ltd. Founded in 1984 and listed publicly in 2002 (code SH600580), Wolong has advanced the boundaries of motor engineering. With over three decades of dynamic industrial development, Wolong manages 3 critical manufacturing bases, 39 high-tech factories, and 3 state-of-the-art R&D centers across the globe.
Our collaborative mission focuses on pioneering elite manufacturing paradigms in industrial electric motors and complex control systems. Incorporating global brand alignment, Shaanxi Nanfang Motor and Wolong provide clients in hazardous environments with unmatched mechanical safety margins, international standards compliance, and leading-edge energy efficiency.
Wolong has consistently achieved international growth by acquiring premier, century-old legacy electric motor brands. This integration combines classical European and American precision engineering with large-scale high-tech manufacturing capacity.
Acquired in 2011, Austria-based ATB Group is a premier European motor manufacturer. This acquisition integrated the Morley brand, which brings over 130 years of history in underground coal mining. Morley is widely recognized in global underground mining sectors for high-output flameproof conveyor and shearer drives.
A pioneer in supplying low starting-current motors for heavy industries and British nuclear facilities. Following its integration into the Wolong Group, Laurence Scott's mechanical solutions continue to serve critical naval vessels, nuclear power stations, and custom high-voltage configurations worldwide.
With more than a century of experience in motor technology, Brook Crompton is recognized for high-efficiency design. Its classic "W" and "10" series low-to-high voltage AC motors provide robust drive performance in harsh chemical and mining operations.
Established in Germany in 1882, Schorch represents high-quality drive engineering. Its heavy-duty explosion-proof motors are widely used in petrochemical pipelines, public water systems, large-scale ventilation projects, and marine environments.
Dating back to 1999, Wolong established a partnership with OLI, a global leader in vibration technology. This collaboration delivers explosion-proof vibration motors and Ex-certified sensors that meet demanding industrial materials handling needs.
In 2018, GE's commercial and industrial motor division integrated with Wolong. This partnership combined GE's experience in heavy industries—such as oil extraction, refining, water management, and cement—with Wolong's global production resources.

Every explosion-proof AC motor we export is engineered for reliability, safety, and efficient heat dissipation. Below is a detailed breakdown of our main structural components.
Our rotors feature a robust squirrel-cage design. For low-voltage, standard-performance motors, we use high-grade centrifugal cast aluminum and die-casting techniques. Pure molten aluminum is injected directly into the rotor slots, forming a single component that integrates the bars and end rings. This structure provides high mechanical strength, good start-up torque, and reliability under variable load conditions.
For high-capacity or high-voltage applications, we use hand-crafted copper bar rotors. The copper bars are secured using advanced induction brazing and end-ring welding. For high-speed applications, we add alloy retaining rings to manage centrifugal forces and maintain dynamic balance, reducing wear and vibration.
The stator winding is insulated using high-content mica tapes, structured with polyester film and glass-fiber backing. Once wound, the entire stator core undergoes the Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) process using high-grade, solventless resins.
The VPI process extracts air and moisture from the stator slots and fills the gaps with insulation material. This treatment creates a solid thermal and mechanical structure with excellent moisture resistance, high dielectric strength, and reliable heat dissipation. The insulation system is rated Class F or Class H, providing stability under continuous high-temperature operations.
Our motor frames are designed using multi-physics structural and fluid dynamic simulations. Made from high-tensile cast iron or fabricated structural steel, they are engineered to contain internal explosions without rupturing or venting sparks into the surrounding atmosphere.
The frame fins are designed to maximize surface area, facilitating convective heat transfer in low-velocity airflow environments. Rigorous mechanical simulations ensure that natural frequencies are outside typical operational speeds, keeping vibration levels low and protecting the motor bearings.
Our low-noise fan cover system includes an integrated aerodynamic shroud, a steel protective mesh, and sound-absorbing baffles. Side-entry air intakes minimize rear airflow restriction, reducing aerodynamic noise and power losses.
Constructed from non-sparking materials, the fan runs safely in hazardous areas. The enclosure meets IP22 or higher ingress ratings, preventing foreign object entry while maintaining cooling airflow across the frame fins.
Operating from China's primary motor manufacturing hubs, Shaanxi Nanfang Motor offers a strong combination of engineering technology, vertical integration, and cost efficiency.
Wolong maintains active motor and drive control research centers in China, Germany, Austria, and Japan, with a central institute in Shanghai. This network supports ongoing technology transfer and ensures our explosion-proof motor exports incorporate recent developments in electrical design and materials science.
Our domestic production facilities benefit from complete regional supply chains. From raw silicon steel sheets and high-purity copper casting to precision CNC machining and automated testing facilities, this integration supports consistent quality control and predictable production lead times.
Every motor undergoes extensive testing before leaving the factory. This testing includes stator winding insulation checks, rotor dynamic balancing, flameproof joint gap measurements, and temperature rise verification, ensuring compliance with IECEx and ATEX safety directives.

To support international trade and site deployment, our explosion-proof motors carry certificates from major global compliance bodies.

Different industries present unique hazards. We configure electric drive systems to match the specific thermal, chemical, and mechanical demands of each operational environment.
Refining environments contain combustible hydrocarbon gases (Group IIA, IIB, IIC). We provide Ex d flameproof low-voltage and high-voltage motors (such as the Wolong YBX3 and YBX5 series) to run high-volume product pumps, petrochemical compressors, and localized process cooling fans safely.
Underground mines are subject to coal dust build-up and methane accumulation. Our YBK3 and YBSD series flameproof motors are built with heavy cast iron frames to resist impacts and are certified to meet underground safety standards (Group I mining conditions).
Tunneling operations require machinery that can handle heavy mechanical loads and high moisture levels. Our YBU, YBUS, and YBUD series motors are built to provide high starting torque for cutter heads and slurry pump drives while operating reliably in confined, damp spaces.
| Hazardous Zone (IEC/EN) | Typical Gas/Dust Risk | Recommended Motor Series | Ex Protection Method |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zone 1 / Zone 21 | Ethylene, Coal Dust, Methane | Wolong YBX3, YBX5, YBSD | Ex d / Ex t (Flameproof / Dust Ignition Proof) |
| Zone 2 / Zone 22 | Ammonia, Propane, Grain Dust | Wolong NEXP, WE4 Series | Ex ec / Ex tc (Increased Safety / Dust Tight) |
| Underground Mines (M2) | Coal Dust & Methane gas | Wolong YBK3, YBS, YBUD | Ex d I Mb (Group I Heavy Flameproof Mining) |

The market for safety-critical electric motors is moving toward higher efficiency, variable speed drive integration, and diagnostic monitoring.
Industrial operations face pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption. While induction motors remain the industry standard, permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM)—like the Wolong TBVF and WEPM series—offer high energy efficiency (IE4/IE5 ratings) even when running at partial loads. This efficiency helps lower operational costs over the motor's lifecycle.
Modern applications frequently run motors via VFDs to match speed to operational demand. Our WEBP3 variable-frequency explosion-proof series is engineered with thermal designs and insulation systems that resist voltage spikes from fast-switching VFD pulses. We also offer Ex-certified vibration and temperature sensors for real-time condition monitoring, helping prevent unexpected downtime.
