Under the Hood

Advanced Component Engineering & Materials Science

Explore the material selection and engineering processes that allow our low-voltage three-phase motors to operate in heavy-duty environments.

Motor Cast Aluminum and Copper Rotor Engineering

Precision Engine Rotor Manufacturing

Our low-voltage motors feature a robust squirrel-cage design. The cast aluminum rotors are manufactured using advanced centrifugal casting or automated high-pressure die-casting. This process forces molten pure aluminum into the rotor core slots to form a single, solid piece containing the rotor bars and end rings.

For higher-capacity systems, we employ copper bar rotors with dynamically balanced, premium welded end-rings. A protective ring design is utilized on our high-speed motors to secure the copper bars against centrifugal forces, ensuring long-term mechanical stability.

Stator VPI Impregnation and Insulation

Stator Winding & VPI Technology

The stator coils are insulated with polyester film and reinforced glass cloth, combined with high-grade, low-powder or medium-powder mica tapes. Every stator assembly undergoes the Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) process.

Under vacuum conditions, premium resin fully penetrates the stator structure, leaving no air gaps. This produces a well-insulated, mechanically rigid winding block with high resistance to moisture, chemical vapor, thermal cycling, and mechanical stress.

Cast Iron Motor Frame Design

Advanced Enclosure & Structural Frame

Developed using multi-physics simulation software, our cast iron or structural steel motor frames are designed with generous safety margins. This design minimizes resonance and optimizes thermal dissipation.

The deep-finned structure provides efficient convective cooling, lowering hot-spot temperatures within the windings. Additionally, robust mounting feet are designed to withstand high mechanical shocks and minimize vibrations across variable speed ranges.

Low Noise Fan Hood System

Acoustically Optimized Fan & Hood Assembly

Our low-noise cooling fan system consists of a lightweight, vibration-dampening fan cover, an air-guide cylinder, protective mesh windows, and integrated silencer plates.

The air intake is positioned to prevent blockage from nearby obstacles, maintaining a consistent airflow pattern and reducing aerodynamic noise. With an IP22 rating, the cover prevents accidental contact with the rotating fan blades while keeping operating sound levels low.

European Engineering: ATB & Schorch

In 2011, Wolong acquired the Austrian ATB Group, gaining access to high-specification motor technology. ATB brands like Morley bring nearly 130 years of underground coal mining expertise, while Laurence Scott provides custom marine and power generation solutions. The addition of Schorch (established in 1882) further expanded our capability in severe-duty drives for oil, gas, and chemical processing.

Global Standards: Brook Crompton & GE

The integration of Brook Crompton brought a legacy of energy-efficient motor design, including the premium "W" and "10" series for harsh industrial tasks. Furthermore, the 2018 acquisition of General Electric's (GE) commercial and industrial motor division added robust manufacturing standards, reinforcing our ability to support heavy industrial operations.

Industrial Protection: Nanyang (CNE) & OLI

Nanyang Explosion-Proof (CNE) provides explosion-proof motor research and manufacturing capabilities for chemical, coal, and petrochemical applications. Partnering with OLI also allows us to supply specialized vibration motors and sensors for material handling and industrial processing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Find technical answers regarding certifications, design parameters, and procurement options for our low-voltage motors.

What are the key requirements for a motor to achieve CE certification?
To achieve CE certification, low-voltage three-phase induction motors must comply with the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2014/35/EU and the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive 2014/30/EU. The motor's electrical insulation, thermal limits, wiring boxes, and grounding terminals must meet EN 60034 specifications to ensure safety for machinery operators.
What is the difference between cast aluminum and copper rotors in low-voltage motors?
Cast aluminum rotors offer a lightweight, cost-effective design with high starting torque, suitable for general-purpose applications. Copper bar rotors, while heavier and requiring specialized induction welding, feature lower electrical resistance, which reduces internal rotor losses and helps motors meet high-efficiency ratings like IE4 or IE5.
How does the VPI insulation system protect against moisture and electrical failure?
The Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) process places the wound stator into a vacuum chamber to remove air pockets and moisture. Under high pressure, insulation varnish is forced into the stator windings, sealing the coils into a solid, moisture-resistant structure. This process improves dielectric strength, heat transfer, and mechanical protection against vibrations.
Can explosion-proof motors run on variable frequency drives (VFD)?
Yes, models such as the YBBP and WEBP3 series are specifically designed for variable frequency operation. They feature reinforced insulation to withstand voltage spikes from PWM drives, as well as thermal sensors (such as PTC thermistors) to monitor temperatures during low-speed, high-torque operation.
