ENGINEERING WHITEPAPER

Stator, Rotor & Core Component Architecture

A microscopic view of our heavy duty 3 Phase Induction Motor structure, designed to withstand extreme voltage fluctuations, aggressive mechanical loads, and thermal shock.

Rotor & Shaft component detailing precision-cast aluminum structures

1. Rotor Design & Shaft Dynamics

The rotor features a rugged squirrel cage design, primarily employing cast aluminum slots. Produced using centrifugal aluminum casting or precision high-pressure die-casting techniques, molten pure aluminum is injected into the high-grade silicon steel lamination stack. This creates a solid integrated unit of rotor bars and end rings, preventing voids and hot-spots.

For large-capacity high voltage applications (such as the YKK or YZYKS series), copper bar rotors are utilized. These feature custom induction-brazed joint structures on the end rings. High-speed rotors are equipped with structural shrink-fit non-magnetic retaining rings to resist centrifugal stress, ensuring G1.0/G2.5 balance levels.

Stator coil winding and VPI process preparation

2. Premium Stator & VPI Insulation

The stator coil is built from double-glass-fiber insulated enameled wire, reinforced with layers of polyester film. We use low-powder or medium-powder mica tape with high mica content to handle intense electrical and thermal stresses.

The entire core and coil assembly undergoes a state-of-the-art VPI (Vacuum Pressure Impregnation) process. This extracts air and moisture from the slots, filling voids with a high-grade solventless epoxy resin. The result is a solid stator core with outstanding dielectric strength, thermal dissipation, mechanical rigidity, and moisture resistance, easily achieving Class F (155°C) or Class H (180°C) thermal ratings.

Cast Iron Frame construction with optimized cooling ribs

3. Structural Optimization (Frame & Rib Design)

The structural design is optimized using multi-physics simulations on a unified digital CAD/CAE platform. This simulates electromagnetic forces, structural stress, and cooling fluid flow.

Constructed from high-tensile strength gray cast iron (standard) or welded steel plates (for high-voltage/special frames), the motor frame has thick cooling ribs to maximize surface area. The design ensures high torsional rigidity, low vibration levels under transient torque loads, and a large thermal safety margin.

Acoustic Fan Hood and Air Duct assembly

4. Low Noise Fan Hood System

The low-noise ventilation system consists of an aerodynamic fan, air guide shroud, mesh protection guard, and sound-absorbing silencer plates. Made from lightweight materials, the fan minimizes rotational inertia.

The side-entry air intake profile prevents obstacles behind the motor from blocking airflow. This layout dampens noise caused by internal turbulence, and integrated sound-absorbing materials further reduce high-frequency fan noise. The fan cover meets IP22 protection guidelines to prevent accidental contact with moving parts.

TECHNICAL FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions on 3 Phase AC Induction Motors

Get answers to common technical, engineering, and procurement questions about induction motors.

What are the advantages of a 3 Phase AC Induction Motor compared to a Single-Phase Motor?

3 Phase AC induction motors provide a constant, rotating magnetic field that enables self-starting without auxiliary starting windings or capacitors. They offer higher power density, better efficiency (up to IE5 levels), lower vibration levels, and superior reliability in continuous-duty heavy industrial environments.

Why is Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) critical for high voltage and explosion-proof motors?

VPI replaces the air and moisture inside the stator slots with a solid, high-dielectric resin. This increases structural rigidity, prevents enameled wire insulation rubbing, improves thermal dissipation from the copper coils to the frame, and seals the windings against humidity, dust, and aggressive chemical vapors.

How do you protect 3 Phase AC induction motors from bearing current erosion when using a VFD?

High-frequency voltage harmonics from VFDs can induce electrical currents along the rotor shaft, which can discharge through the bearings and cause pitting and premature failure. To prevent this, we install insulated bearings on the non-drive end, ground brush systems on the drive end, or use ceramic hybrid bearings.

What is the difference between ATEX, IECEx, and EAC certification standards?

ATEX: A European Union directive mandatory for equipment used in explosive atmospheres within Europe. IECEx: An international certification scheme designed to harmonize standards globally. EAC Ex: Mandatory safety standard required for hazardous area equipment imported into the Eurasian Customs Union (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan).

What design changes are made for Class H enameled wire versus Class F enameled wire?

Class H enameled wire features an extra polyimide overlay that allows it to operate safely at higher hot-spot temperatures (up to 180°C, compared to 155°C for Class F). Class H designs also require premium, high-temperature slot insulation liners, matching mica tape formulations, and modified impregnation resins to match the thermal rating.

How does an external cooling fan hood decrease overall motor noise levels?

Our low-noise fan hoods utilize optimized internal air guide cylinders to streamline airflow and reduce turbulence. The shroud incorporates sound-deadening liner materials, and the air intakes are positioned on the side to prevent noise from propagating directly backwards.

What testing procedures do your OEM motors undergo before dispatch?

All custom motors undergo routine tests in our test bays, including winding resistance measurements, insulation resistance testing (megger test), no-load voltage and current measurements, open-circuit/short-circuit checks, dynamic balance checks, and vibration profiling. Type-test curves and temperature rise tests are also available on request.

What is the typical lead time for a custom OEM motor order?

Lead times depend on the motor frame size, voltage rating, and customization level. Standard low-voltage IE3/IE4 motors can ship in 4 to 6 weeks, while larger high-voltage motors (like the YKK series) or custom ATEX-certified systems require 8 to 12 weeks to complete precision winding, VPI treatment, test-bay validation, and international certification.
