Engineering Design & Core Components

A detailed view of the structural features and components that enable our low-voltage AC induction motors to deliver reliable performance.

Motor Rotor Manufacturing Detail

Rotor Core & Dynamic Balancing

The rotor features a squirrel cage design, utilizing cast aluminum rotors. These rotors are produced using centrifugal aluminum casting or high-pressure die-casting techniques, where molten pure aluminum is poured into the slots of the rotor core, creating a single-piece construction that integrates the rotor bars and end rings. The structural design of these cast aluminum rotors ensures reliability and delivers high torque properties. For larger capacity applications, copper bar rotors are used, which benefit from secure bar fixing and end-ring welding procedures. Additionally, the protective ring design of high-speed motors supports the stable operation of the copper bar rotor under variable centrifugal stresses.

Motor Stator Vinding and VPI

Stator Insulation & VPI Processing

The stator coil is insulated with polyester film and reinforced glass cloth, utilizing low-powder mica tape with a high mica content or medium-powdered mica tape. Following the wire insertion process, the complete assembly undergoes the Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) cycle, producing a clean, sealed stator core. The winding and insulation systems are designed to provide electrical performance, mechanical strength, moisture resistance, and thermal stability under varying thermal loads.

High Strength Motor Frame

Optimized Structural Frame

The motor frame is designed using a digital platform for structural and fluid multi-physics simulations. This simulation platform incorporates mature, high-strength cast iron (or steel as an alternative) to maintain structural integrity. The frame design features structural redundancy and heat dissipation properties, providing sufficient natural frequency isolation margins to minimize vibrations. It is engineered to withstand mechanical shocks, control vibration, and maintain low temperature rise profiles during continuous duty.

Low Noise Fan Hood System

Low Noise Fan Hood System

The low-noise fan cover system comprises a fan cover body, an air guide cylinder, a protective window, and a silencer plate. Its compact structure and lightweight design facilitate vibration reduction. The air inlet is situated on the side, which optimizes the avoidance of obstacles behind the motor, minimizing adverse effects on ventilation and reducing noise caused by energy loss during propagation path changes. The system also incorporates sound-absorbing materials that absorb noise, thereby lowering the overall motor noise. Additionally, the fan cover is rated IP22, ensuring that hands cannot come into contact with the fan.

Global Procurement Demands & Industry Trends

Understanding the transition to higher efficiency and smart monitoring in global motor installations.

IE4/IE5 Transition

Driven by carbon neutrality targets, global energy regulations are phasing out older IE2/IE3 motors. Wolong offers IE4 and ultra-efficient IE5 Permanent Magnet (PM) synchronous motors that run cooler, consume less power, and reduce total cost of ownership.

VFD Speed Regulation

Using Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) helps optimize flow rates in fans and pump stations, cutting electricity use by up to 50%. Our variable frequency three-phase motors (like the WEBP3 and BPY-S30 series) feature reinforced corona-resistant insulation systems.

Smart Maintenance

Integrating IoT vibration, temperature, and current sensors allows plant operators to move from reactive repairs to predictive maintenance schedules, helping prevent unexpected downtime on critical lines.

Diverse Industrial Applications

Wolong's range of low, medium, and high-voltage motors is designed for various industrial equipment applications:

Fluid Machinery Powering industrial fans, blowers, centrifugal pumps, and process compressors.
Heavy Petrochemical ATEX/IECEx certified flameproof motors for refineries and chemical plants.
Mining Operations Heavy-duty conveyor drives, slurry pumps, and coal shearer cutting motors.

Technical FAQ & Sourcing Insights

Read detailed technical answers on low-voltage motor procurement, engineering compliance, and maintenance practices.

1. What are the main differences between IEC and NEMA standards for low-voltage motors? +
IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) standards differ in design philosophy and dimensions. IEC motors use metric measurements (millimeters) and are designed to run closer to their thermal limits, while NEMA motors use imperial measurements (inches) and typically include a larger service factor (usually 1.15) to handle temporary overloads. Wolong manufactures motors to both standards, supplying metric IEC designs globally and NEMA-compliant models for North American markets.
2. How does the Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) process enhance motor lifespan? +
The VPI process extracts air and moisture from the stator core, filling the voids with high-grade insulating resin under pressure. This creates a solid, moisture-resistant insulation system that improves heat dissipation from the copper coils, minimizes mechanical movement of the windings, and helps protect the motor against moisture, chemical dust, and premature electrical failure.
3. What insulation class is required for motors operating with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)? +
Motors running on VFDs experience voltage spikes and harmonic heating. They generally require Class F insulation with a Class B temperature rise limit, or Class H insulation for heavy-duty applications. In addition, using insulated non-drive end bearings is recommended to prevent electrical EDM current damage, a feature standard on Wolong's VFD-designed series (such as WEBP3).
4. How does Wolong ensure explosion-proof safety for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas? +
Our explosion-proof motors (such as the WEX3, WE5, and YBF series) are built with flameproof enclosures (Ex d or Ex db) designed to contain an internal explosion without igniting the surrounding atmosphere. These enclosures feature precise flame path joint dimensions, robust cast-iron frames, and sealed cable entry chambers, all certified under ATEX and IECEx schemes.
5. What support is available for replacing legacy European or American brands with Wolong motors? +
Shaanxi Nanfang Motor Technology helps facilitate legacy motor replacements. Our engineering team reviews your existing motor's datasheets, mounting dimensions, shaft extensions, and electrical specifications. Because Wolong owns historic brands like Brook Crompton, Schorch, and ATB, we can supply drop-in replacements that match the physical dimensions and electrical performance of legacy units.
