Explore our top industrial-grade mine motors developed for coal mining, ventilation, conveyors, and gas atmospheres.
Global mining enterprises face some of the most challenging operating conditions of any heavy industry. From deep underground shafts containing explosive dust-air and methane mixtures to abrasive surface mining operations subject to torrential rains and extreme heat, the demands placed on mechanical drive systems are unprecedented. A standard motor will fail rapidly under these conditions, presenting significant safety hazards and expensive operational downtime.
In response, the modern minemotor has transformed. Beyond simple explosion-proof envelopes, engineers now demand high efficiency ratings (IE3, IE4, and the emerging IE5 standards) coupled with integrated smart monitoring systems. As mining processes digitize, these motors serve as the workhorses behind the automated haulage systems, ventilation networks, and mineral processing machinery that run continuously 24/7/365.
“Operational resilience is no longer optional. Industrial motors deployed in high-risk zones must comply with localized safety frameworks while lowering the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) through advanced energy conservation.”

Comprehensive portfolio covering asynchronous and synchronous structures, variable frequency drives, variable speed adjustments, and heavy-duty designs for conveyors, ventilation fans, coal cutting machines, and industrial shearers.
Wolong has established dedicated motor and drive control R&D hubs in China, Europe, and Japan. Centered by the Shanghai Central Research Institute, the team works on leading-edge electromagnetic simulations, heat management solutions, and low-noise vibration limits. Some of the high-power variable frequency drive products have achieved global leadership rankings, matching severe operations requirements.
By bringing prominent global electric motor manufacturers under its umbrella, Wolong has compiled unmatched technical heritage. The group owns Nanyang Explosion (CNE), alongside legendary names such as Brook Crompton, Morley, Laurence Scott, Schorch, and ATB. The OLI brand stands as a global leader in high-performance vibration motor (MVE) solutions and vibration sensors.
With the incorporation of China's largest explosion-proof research facility, Nanyang Explosion Group (CNE), in 2015, the company has expanded its authority over design compliance. These heavy motors are certified under ATEX, IECEx, and CU-TR, with active protection structures designed to prevent flame propagation in coal mines, gas processing plants, and refineries.
From local Chinese engineering to international technological dominance, Wolong's strategic acquisitions deliver superior products.
In 2011, Wolong expanded its European presence by acquiring 97.94% of the Austrian ATB Group, positioning Wolong as one of the primary high-power industrial motor manufacturers globally. This acquisition integrated the specialized expertise of Morley—boasting nearly 130 years of underground coal mining heritage—and Laurence Scott, renowned for low starting current configurations suitable for naval and nuclear power applications.
By bringing Brook Crompton Motors into the group, Wolong added energy-efficient standard products like the Brook Crompton "W" and "10" series designed for harsh environments. Concurrently, Schorch (established 1882) joined to provide driving systems for global chemical, oil, gas, and test station installations. For materials processing, the integration of OLI vibration motors provided the largest vibration motor market share worldwide.
In 2015, Wolong welcomed the Nanyang Explosion-Proof Group (CNE), China’s primary R&D base for explosion-proof electric motors, directly supplying the oil, chemical, and nuclear industries. By 2018, General Electric (GE)’s commercial and industrial motor division partnered with Wolong, combining GE's manufacturing experience with Wolong’s production capacity.
How Wolong leverages raw material access, vertically integrated parts fabrication, and automated quality control to secure global project lead times.
Global procurement directors prioritize supply chain reliability. China's advanced industrial ecosystem allows Wolong to bypass raw material bottlenecks through direct partnerships with domestic silicon steel and high-purity copper casting suppliers. With over 39 production plants, our manufacturing processes are vertically integrated: from rotor casting and automatic stator winding to digital balancing and complete dynamometer performance tests.
By using fully digital engineering platforms, we simulate fluid dynamics and multi-physics thermal models before casting ever begins. This eliminates micro-structural flaws, lowers mechanical resonance frequencies, and ensures that the final minemotor can withstand extreme shocks common in underground longwall mining systems.
Additionally, our logistics infrastructure links directly with deep-water ports (Ningbo and Shanghai) and global freight rail networks. This ensures that customized frame sizes, high-voltage assemblies, and bulk replacement orders are shipped reliably to North America, Europe, Australia, and South Africa.
A detailed analysis of the components designed to prevent mechanical failures under high loads.
Featuring a squirrel-cage design, our rotors are manufactured using centrifugal aluminum casting or precision die-casting techniques. Pure molten aluminum is poured into the slots of the laminated rotor core, creating a single-piece construction combining rotor bars and end rings. For large-capacity minemotors, copper bar rotors are used. These feature induction-brazed joint connections to prevent thermal fatigue under continuous start-and-stop operation.
Stator coils are wrapped in high-mica-content tape, combined with polyester film and glass-fiber insulation. Following mechanical winding and insertion, the stator assembly undergoes Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI). This solventless resin impregnation process eliminates air voids within the slots, resulting in high dielectric strength, moisture resistance, and thermal dissipation, meeting Class F (155°C) and Class H (180°C) standards.
The outer housing is engineered using structural finite element analysis (FEA). Cast from high-tensile gray iron or welded structural steel, the frames feature cooling ribs configured for optimal thermal conduction. Excellent mechanical stiffness isolates internal vibrations, protecting bearings from misalignment and extending structural life in underground environments.
Comprising an aerodynamic fan cover, air guide cylinder, protective mesh, and internal sound dampeners, the ventilation assembly minimizes energy loss during air movement. Side-oriented air intakes prevent debris accumulation. Rating at IP22, the shroud prevents physical contact with the rotating fan blades while maintaining high cooling airflow.
From large-scale cooling towers to deep coal cutting interfaces, Wolong motors power essential global infrastructure.
Wolong motors are integrated across heavy industries including mining, petro-refining, metal processing, municipal water treatment, and shipping yards. These motors power long-distance coal conveyors, heavy ventilation fans, slurry pumps, centrifugal gas compressors, and industrial milling equipment.
In hazardous gas or dust environments, these motors prevent ignition through flameproof (Ex d), increased safety (Ex e), or dust-ignition-proof (Ex t) structural configurations.
