Strategic Alignment

Integration of General Electric (GE) & CNE

In 2018, General Electric (GE) Industrial Motors joined Wolong. As a legendary manufacturer of commercial and heavy-duty electrical equipment, GE brings premium expertise to our designs for petrochemical, power generation, and steel applications.

Similarly, the integration of CNE (Nanyang Explosion-Proof Group)—China's largest research and production base for explosion-proof motors—cemented our leadership in safety critical technologies. This combination allows us to manufacture complex drive solutions that perform reliably in extreme environments.

Macro-Industry Solutions & Global Industrial Landscape

As carbon neutrality targets accelerate globally, heavy industries demand low RPM electric motors that optimize energy consumption, reduce reliance on high-wear gearboxes, and eliminate down-time.

1. High-Torque Direct-Drive Systems

Traditional setups use high-speed motors paired with complex mechanical gearboxes, leading to energy loss, high friction, and regular maintenance requirements. Wolong's customized low RPM motors act as direct-drive units. By eliminating the gearbox, they reduce transmission losses by 5% to 15%, lowering overall operational costs in mining, wastewater management, and heavy manufacturing.

2. Global Industrial Electrification & Safety Compliance

Modern petrochemical, oil & gas, and heavy chemical operations face strict safety regulations. The integration of Nanyang CNE, ATB, and GE allows Wolong to offer a comprehensive range of certified explosion-proof motors. These units are built to withstand corrosive atmospheres and prevent explosive events in hazardous areas, aligning with changing international safety guidelines.

3. High-Efficiency IE4 / IE5 Motors

In response to global regulations targeting industrial emissions, Wolong provides permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) and high-efficiency induction motors rated IE4 and IE5. By improving partial-load efficiency, these designs help heavy industries lower energy consumption and meet international sustainability metrics.

State-of-the-Art Components & Design

A detailed look at the mechanical engineering and material science that ensure the reliability of Wolong's low RPM electric motors.

High-Torque Rotor Engineering

Precision-Balanced Rotor Core Design

The rotor features a rugged squirrel-cage design, with cast aluminum options produced using advanced centrifugal casting or high-pressure die-casting. This process pours molten, pure aluminum into the core slots to form a single, integrated piece that combines the rotor bars and end rings, delivering excellent starting torque and structural durability.

For high-capacity or specialized applications, we use high-grade copper bar rotors. These elements are secured with durable bar-locking systems and end-ring welding. For high-speed models, customized protective retaining rings are added to safeguard the assembly against centrifugal stresses and maintain balance under heavy dynamic loads.

High-Density Mica-Wound Stator Systems

The stator windings are insulated using high-performance polyester film reinforced with woven glass cloth. They are wrapped with low-powder mica tape or medium-powdered mica tape, which contains a high percentage of natural mica for superior dielectric strength.

Once wound, the stator undergoes a comprehensive Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) process. This cycle removes air pockets and cures the assembly, creating a solid, moisture-resistant winding. This structural design provides excellent mechanical strength, high thermal stability, and reliable performance in damp or corrosive environments.

Multi-Physics Simulated Cast Iron Frame

The motor frame is developed using digital multi-physics simulation platforms, optimizing structural load distribution and fluid-dynamic cooling. Using high-strength cast iron or structural steel, these frames are built with substantial mechanical margin.

The rib arrangement is engineered to dissipate heat quickly, keeping internal temperatures within stable limits. By calculating resonance frequencies, the frame design isolates mechanical vibrations, protecting internal bearings and extending the operating life of the entire drive system.

Low-Noise Fan and Hood Ventilation

The ventilation system consists of an engineered fan cover, an air-guide cylinder, protective mesh windows, and integrated silencer plates. The side-inlet design helps avoid obstacles behind the motor, optimizing airflow and reducing the noise generated by turbulent air.

Constructed with specialized sound-absorbing materials, the fan cover attenuates high-frequency noise. Rated at IP22, the hood design prevents external contact with the fan blades, ensuring a safe and quiet working environment.

Technical FAQ & Engineering Support

Expert answers to common engineering questions regarding the application, selection, and performance of low RPM electric motors.

What are the advantages of low RPM direct-drive electric motors over high-speed gearmotor setups?
Low RPM direct-drive motors eliminate the need for a mechanical speed-reduction gearbox. This design reduces transmission power losses by 5% to 15%, eliminates potential points of mechanical failure, and cuts down on oil leaks and maintenance. Direct-drive setups also offer superior torsional rigidity, lower noise levels, and precise control across the speed range, which is particularly beneficial for heavy conveyors, agitators, and winding drums.
How do Wolong motors maintain insulation integrity when operated at low speeds on Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)?
Operating a motor at lower speeds via a VFD can increase heat generation because the shaft-mounted cooling fan runs slower. To counter this, Wolong employs Class H insulation materials, high-density mica tapes, and a comprehensive Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) process to prevent thermal breakdown. Where needed, we install independent forced-ventilation blower units to ensure stable cooling across all operational speeds.
What is the difference between positive pressure (Ex p) and flameproof (Ex d) protection classes in hazardous environments?
Flameproof (Ex d) enclosures are engineered to contain any internal explosion, preventing sparks or flame from escaping into the surrounding hazardous environment. Positive Pressure (Ex p) enclosures maintain a continuous internal pressure using clean air or an inert gas, preventing flammable gases from entering the motor housing in the first place. Wolong supplies both types, including the YB3/YBBPX (Ex d) and TAW/TZYW (Ex p) series, to match specific industrial safety requirements.
How does the TESTSAFE standard support underground mining installations?
TESTSAFE is a major certification standard for mining equipment in the Southern Hemisphere. Wolong's TESTSAFE compliance confirms that our mining and conveyor motors meet strict safety requirements for explosive gas and coal dust environments, supporting export and installation in major global mining regions, including Australia.
What customization options are available for shaft extensions, bearings, and mounting structures?
We provide a wide range of customizations, including standard cylindrical or tapered shafts, heavy-duty cylindrical roller bearings for high radial loads, and insulated bearings to prevent shaft currents. Additionally, we offer custom mounting configurations (horizontal, vertical, or foot-mounted) to ensure smooth integration with existing plant machinery.
